Ranch matriarch, Mardelle Pringle, along with daughter, Beth Patterson, and granddaughter, Rebecca Farha, make up the legacy of this ranching family. Presently, the ranch custom grazes cow-calf pairs on native grass in the summer and runs the cows on cool-season grasses and crop residue in the fall. As calving draws near, cows are moved home to pastures close by. Patterson and her husband, David, additionally run their own spring and fall cow-calf herds. David manages the farming and haying. Farha says she and her mother work together regularly with the cattle. Describing her mom as the “hardest working woman in the county,” Patterson seems hard to keep up with. Mardelle Pringle is in control of and actively manages the ranch. The two younger women are active members of Kansas Livestock Association (KLA). Farha recently ended a two-year county chair term and continues her work by being on the KLA Executive Membership Council and Committee. The day prior to our interview, Farha had attended the KLA Legislative Day in Topeka. Patterson was appointed to two terms as a representative on the Cattlemen’s Beef Board and serves on the Kansas Beef Council. Patterson and Farha are also passionate about beef promotion. They have spoken to consumer science and ag classes at their local high school about nutrition and production practices and, along with Pringle, work with their CattleWomen group to help promote beef in their county. This southeast Kansas ranching family looks forward to continuing as good stewards of the land and cattle. 
