They’ll also be in the trenches of livestock production. Conklin, who grew up near the Walcott, Texas, community outside Hereford, says the program is commu- nity engaged. “We interact with not only veterinar- ians and veterinary practices in regional areas, but also with producers, regula- tory bodies, animal health companies and others in a very collaborative fash- ion,” he says. “The students’ final year is dependent on the delivery of instruction from those places.” That year is broken down into several rotations. “In required rotations, stu- dents will physically go to a number of primary, core instructional sites,” Conk- lin says. “Those will include 55 veteri- nary practices that are engaged with this program – and over 175 veterinarians. “There will also be elective rotation activities. Those may include livestock producers, specialty areas or animal health companies.
