In today’s world of smart- phones, tablets and watches, Karli Schilling knows that requires a lot of social media to help keep employees informed of what’s happening at FI. Karli is FI’s feedyard operations and media manager, headquartered at its downtown Amarillo office. She has been part of the company’s major effort to expand its social media activity.“We started a new social media initiative to tell our story a few years ago,” she says.“I’m on all social media platforms. Every day we have a post on the company. “We do an ‘employee Wednesday’ post that enables us to highlight employees at the feedyards. It puts the spotlight on them. They really enjoy how they’re highlighted. It gives their families a lot more information about what they do in their jobs.” Karli believes the beef industry should take extra steps to promote what we do. “You have to get out there and tell your story about cattle feeding,” she says.“If we don’t tell them [consumers], they will go the route of other sources. We try to explain the entire feeding operation from cow-calf to the feedyard and all the way through the packer to the store.” She says FI employees “love the social media program. They understand that they need to educate people on their roles and the vital point they make in cattle operations.” 
