Kansas State University drew her to Kansas in the fall of 1984 to major in beef cattle reproduction. Kansas State is also where she met her husband of 32 years, David Clawson. After graduating in 1986, they settled in Satanta, Kan., on the Clawson family operation, which consisted of both dryland and irrigated farming and a cow-calf operation. In 1995, they moved to Englewood to a newly purchased ranch, but con- tinued working with David’s family in all of their agricultural endeavors. In 2001, the Clawson family partnered with other farmers to build the High Plains Ponderosa Dairy. Together, the farm and ranch has 15 employees in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas, and the dairy has more than 100 employees. The farm produces corn, milo, soybeans and wheat. The cow-calf operation is primarily Angus and Red Angus cows that they cross with Polled Herefords for replacement females and Charolais for feeder calves. David and Jeanne have three children. Their oldest, Layne, is serving in the U.S. Air Force; daughter, Ann, is in Orlando, Fla., managing new store openings for Olive Garden; and the youngest, Carl, just returned home to the family operation. While raising their children, Jeanne did the ranch’s pregnancy checking and AI’ing. Now that they are grown, she moved into fulltime employment at the Clawson office in Plains. There she is the human resources manager, oversees required water-use reports for the irrigation wells and stock water at the dairy, handles the farm’s insurance and Worker’s Compensation policies, and assists with data entry in the CenterPoint accounting system. She shares piano playing responsibilities with two other individuals at church on Sundays, and on Wednesday evenings, she is involved with AWANA. Additionally, she is the crochet and knitting project leader for 4-H in Meade county, and serves on the Englewood Township Board.  Dec. 4-6 Kansas Livestock Assn.
