As the Northern Ireland-based company moves into its next half century of business, it is poised to bring even more value-added products and services to veterinarians, livestock producers and pet owners. The company has a remarkable his- tory of investing in product research and development, and manufacturing capabili- ties that bring differentiated, cost-effective generic animal health products to market. “Our existing products and our new product pipeline are aligned with the needs of livestock and pet customers to provide economical, effective alternatives to both pioneer and other generic prod- ucts currently on the market,” says Bruce Brinkmeyer, vice president of sales and marketing for Norbrook North America. Although producers may not know the Norbrook name or history, many are familiar with some of the company’s more popular products like Noromycin 300 LA (oxytetracycline 300 mg/mL), Enroflox 100 (enrofloxacin) Injection, Norfenicol (florfenicol) Injectable Solu- tion, Cefenil RTU (ceftiofur hydrochlo- ride sterile suspension) and Eprizero (eprinomectin) Pour-On. “While we do business globally and have more than 300 product registra- tions, which is significant for a company of our size, our core business strength is in the United States food animal market,” Brinkmeyer explains.“With substantial manufacturing facilities located strategically around the world, we are a leading maker of antibiotics, sterile and non-sterile injectables and intramammary prod- ucts for our brand and for private label customers in more than 100 countries.” are facing increasing competition from foreign manufacturers. In a country that eats an estimated 50 billion hamburgers and 20 billion hot dogs per year, grilling remains one of the nation’s most popular cultural practices. According to a 2018 survey, while 72 of U.S. grill owners cite “flavor” as their top reason for grilling, more than half cite “lifestyle” as a reason, 40 percent cite “entertainment” and 18 percent cite “health.” Grilling and barbequing in America is more than a cuisine, it is a lifestyle. The company has made sizeable investment in its manufacturing, supply chain, research and development, and other operational areas to meet current and future customer demands for their products and to ensure confidence in product quality and supply. In the United States and other parts of the world, a significant part of Norbrook’s growth has come in manu- facturing and adding value to injectable antibiotics as they become available as generics. That’s because effective, economical generic antibiotics can play a significant role in helping producers treat a wide range of anticipated and unanticipated illnesses, says Eric Moore, DVM, director of technical services with Norbrook North America. “Generic antibiotics are widely prescribed and used today by livestock producers to safely and successfully treat a wide range of anticipated and unantici- pated illnesses and health conditions,” Moore explains. “Just like name-brand or pioneer products, generic antibiotics are extensively tested and proven treatment solutions that producers can include in their health management toolbox. Plus, many generics offer significant cost savings and other unique enhancements over their pioneer counterparts.” Most people have used and trusted generic human medicines, and can have that same degree of trust and comfort in generic livestock pharmaceuticals. Using a generic product offers a cost-effective medical alternative without compromis- ing on safety, efficacy and convenience. While generic products must adhere to the same stringent Food and Drug Administration requirements in safety, efficacy and manufacturing as pioneer products, some do offer unique dif- ferences in formulation, packaging, withdrawal times and other enhance- ments that producers find appealing. A good example of this is Norfenicol, Norbrook’s generic version of Nuflor® (florfenicol) (Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp.), which offers a less viscous, more syringeable formulation and a plastic bottle with hanger to make it more con- venient for producers to use. “As more products – both pioneer and generic – come to market, it’s up to companies to find ways to add value to their products that benefit producers and veterinarians,” Brinkmeyer says. “At Norbrook, we believe our current and future products, along with our techni- cal services, provide the differentiating enhancements that customers value when considering products to effectively manage the health of their animals.”  HOT OFF THE GRILL Continued from page 38 Driving Value and Innovation in the Global Animal Health Industry
