42 CALF News • June | July 2019 • www.calfnews.net On the Human Side National The Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion & Research Board (CBB) has named Gregory Hanes of Colorado as their new chief execu- tive officer. Hanes comes to the CBB from the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) in Denver, Colo., where he most recently was vice president of international marketing programs, and he led the marketing team through global strategic planning processes. Hanes also served as the USMEF liaison to the beef industry and worked closed with a variety of national and state beef organizations. After 34 years with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), the past four as CEO, Kendal Frazier will be retiring at the end of this year. Fra- zier’s career began as a farm broad- caster in Kansas, where he also served as director of communications for Kansas Livestock Association , before moving to Denver, Colo., to join the staff of the National Cattlemen’s Associa- tion (NCA), predecessor organization to NCBA. Frazier was instrumental in the merger of NCA with the National Live Stock and Meat Board in 1996 and helped secure the passage of the checkoff referendum in 1998. NCBA will begin the search process to select a new CEO immediately. Kansas Lee Borck was honored with the Jay B. Dillingham Award for Agricul- tural Leadership and Excellence by the Agricultural Business Council of Kansas City (ABCKC). Bork is chair- man of Innovative Livestock Services, Inc., and chairman of the Beef Market- ing Group Cooperative, which together represent cattle feedlots in Kansas and Nebraska. The ABCKC presents this award annually to individuals who “embody the entrepreneurial spirit that drives the economic growth of the Heartland’s agribusiness industry.” Ranchland Trust of Kansas (RTK) has named Lynn Gentine as executive director. Gentine, a native of Little River, brings 20 years of experience in grant writing and project start- up, promotion and marketing to RTK. She also has seven years of experience in supervision and management. Company Alltech has hired four new execu- tives. Brian McCawley is the senior vice president of sales at Alltech, with a focus on the company’s North America additive business. Prior to join- ing Alltech, McCawley spent 15 years with Big Dutchman. Mike Osborne , the founder and former president of Nutra Blend , has joined Alltech as key account advisor for North America. Christopher Speight is Alltech’s chief financial officer of the Americas. Speight began working with Alltech while at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and formally advised on Alltech’s acquisition of Ridley in 2015. Jonathan Forrest Wilson is Alltech’s president of Greater China, a role most recently held by Dr. Mark Lyons , now president and CEO of Alltech. Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) celebrated the opening of its new high-tech livestock feed facility in Quincy, Ill. This is the fourth animal nutrition manufacturing facility ADM has opened in North America opened recently. The new facility is located next to the original feed manufacturing plant ADM purchased in 1998 from Moor- man Manufacturing Company . Certified Angus Beef ® (CAB ® ) recently hired two agriculture journalists as producer communi- cations specialists. Morgan Marley earned a degree in ag communications from the University of Arkansas before continuing on with a master’s in public communication and technology from Colorado State University . Abbie Burnett is a recent graduate of Texas Tech Uni- versity , where she double majored in ag communications and electronic media and communications. Both women are working out of the corporate headquar- ters in Wooster, Ohio. DemKota Ranch Beef, a packing plant in Aberdeen, S.D., is the first and only plant in the state to license with the Cer- tified Angus Beef ® (CAB ® ) brand. First opened in 2012, the plant is now oper- ated by its third owner, New Angus LLC , funded by San Francisco-based invest- ment firm White Oak Global Advisers . Where Food Comes From, Inc. (WFCF) announced the launch of Black Angus Verified Beef, a new verification program designed to reassure cattle buyers and beef con- sumers that the claims producers and marketers make about Black Angus beef are authentic. Black Angus Verified Beef is a sub-program of Breed Verified , IMI Global’s newly approved USDA Process Verified Program.
