Although I didn’t put anything in the last issue, there wasn’t much worth writing at the time. But very soon after the deadline passed, there was a whole shebang of events that has happened over the summer! After school got out, we went to the Kansas Junior Charolais Show in Hutchinson. There, we took two steers (Chex and Cheddar) as well as my Cha- rolais Bull (Pepperjack). Pepperjack did well for his age, but Cheddar ended up winning Reserve Champion Steer. After that, we went to Grand Island, Neb., for the National Jr. Maine Anjou Show. We decided to go there because we had never been to it before, I wanted to go, and we had a good selection to take. acted better in the ring (he was pouting and throwing a fit because he couldn’t see his girls ... although it was nothing I couldn’t handle). Next after the National Jr. Maine Anjou Show, we went to the very tra- ditional county fair. I took a cow-calf pair (Razzy and Squirt), my Red Angus Steer ( Jiggs) and Jasper. Thankfully, this time Jasper drank and ate throughout the fair (although she hadn’t quite caught up to where she was before Nationals). This year was my second year of being in the Senior category for Showmanship. Last year there were a lot of older Seniors in the top five (I was number fourth) so I wasn’t that concerned about winning. that he still did well. He was a sweet, easy-going baby that loved to be loved. Along with taking my animals to the fair, I also took four photos and one cookie. The judge said that my photos were all really good but each one needed just one or two changes and they would have gotten a purple. Thankfully, one of them was good enough to actually get a purple! At the State Fair it got a blue, which is pretty good for taking it with my phone! As for my cookies, they were very last minute and were made fresh the day that they were judged. They got a blue. Also, during our State Fair this week, I will be exhibiting two cow-calf pairs in the Cow-Calf Super Show! Razzy and Squirt will be there as well as Reba and Sheba. In the next couple weeks, we will be going to KJLS (Kansas Jr Livestock Show) with my two steers Chex and Cheddar as well as Jasper and possi- bly one other animal. Finishing out the season with the American Royal, we will be taking Reba and my baby bull Jackson. Both are Red Angus and I really wished that I could have entered other breeds, but that would have been too much hotel for being there for two weeks. Aside from showing, I got a summer job! My dad now owns a painting com- pany called Certa Pro Painters, and I ran around putting up door-hangers in dif- ferent neighborhoods. Sadly, while it was really fun to do, it took up a lot of time so I had to quit. But fortunately, I am now working at a car wash! That way I can still enjoy the outdoors while having the safety blanket of being inside. Not only has my summer job come to an end, but so has my title of being our 4-H club president. Since there was really only one other person my age in our club, I thought that I would give someone else a chance. Although I am not president, I am still active within the club and am now the vice president. So many things seem to be coming to an end, but one major thing has begun. And that would be the inevitable SCHOOL. They say that junior year would be the hardest and whoever “they” are, are not wrong. I am looking to take two college credit classes and hope that Reserve Champion Steer Cheddar The theme was “The Grand Fiesta.” We brought two heifers ( Jasper and Piper) and my bull (not so tuff ) Tuff. Jasper decided to not eat or drink hardly anything the entire week so that made her look really bad the day of the show. We were debating on if we should take Piper or not because over the past few months she has started to roach her back. We ended up taking her anyways because if all else fails, I could use her for Show- manship. As predicted, the heifers didn’t do so well. Although I am very proud to announce that Tuff won Reserve Cham- pion Maintainer Bull in a very competi- tive class composed of eight other bulls. Even though I am very proud that he won a national title, I wish that he would have Jiggs This time around, I shined through and won Champion Senior Showman. I was really nervous about the Round Robin because I didn’t want to win it yet. If you do win in your division, you can’t show again in that age group in the Round Robin. Thankfully, my wish came true and I won Reserve Champion Round Robin Senior Showman. One thing that I was kind of sad about was that Jiggs didn’t do so well in his classes. But the good news is that on my Show- manship buckle, instead of a heifer (I used Jasper for Showmanship), there was a steer. So, I decided that the steer on the buckle would represent Jiggs. Sadly, I did have to sell Jiggs in the sale, but I think Continued on page 47 
