Thus, she has worked her way up from the bottom of the ladder in the IANR to become a department head. Mamo credits her successful journey to the support and encouragement she has consistently received from her family and friends, UNL-IANR, peers and mentors. Family Mamo is married to Daniel, and they have three sons – a sophomore at UNL, a senior in high school and a middle schooler. Not surprisingly, Daniel also has a doctorate in soil and water conservation and previously worked for UNL and the U.S. Geological Survey, investigating sur- face waters. Today, he works from home with his own consulting service, Ginting Environmental. He primarily works with Lincoln residents on water conservation within the city. This enables the couple to have a parent at home. Future plans Mamo has taught nearly 3,000 students during her 18 years at UNL. Asked if her job keeps her deskbound, Mamo laughs and says no, every day is different. She enjoys visiting with students, stakeholders, faculty and staff. Most important, she is excited about the opportunities to continue building on excellent programming that serves the citizens of Nebraska. Final thoughts Mamo is pleased with what she has accomplished, believing,“It is impor- tant to know your purpose and to work believing that you will have an impact, small or large.” A person of faith, she is grateful for having had the opportunity to contrib- ute, and is always looking for things to do better. Mamo is a great testament to the successful pursuit of happiness, career and service within bountiful opportunities in a progressive immigra- tion process that benefits all of us.  MARTHA MAMO Continued from page 20 LallemandForageInoculants.com/US Take control of your silage with Lallemand Animal Nutrition: Fuel your cattle for optimal performance Your cattle are ready to put on the pounds, give them the fuel to do it. We’re still trying to build back up. Most grass has come back, but we’re having to go deeper for water. Wells that were once 80 feet deep are now 300 feet deep.” But Stevens and other regional ranch- ers are resilient in their efforts to manage ranches around the climate and the market.“I keep doing the numbers to try and stay ahead,” she says.“I’m steadily trying to improve cattle and monitor the markets. “Along with manager Cody and other wonderful cowboys, Jody Hazen, Hunter Kennedy and Codi Myers, I’m blessed that my nephew, Tanner, and daughter, Michelle, are here to help learn how this ranch operates.” Yep, Pamela Stevens is where she wants to be. 
