49 CALF News • October | November 2019 • www.calfnews.net The following are tongue-in-cheek Snapchats from a feedyard newbie working at Any Yard, USA. Comments were made for purely entertainment purposes, and specifics have been left out to protect the innocent. Day 2 Didn’t get bucked off my own horse. Butt, legs and knees sore from riding for six hours. Arms sore from pressure wash- ing with a dang fire hose. Going to bed at 8:30. Day 3 Did not use a horse to ride pens. Think it was a weird type of hunchback Creature from the Black Lagoon. Had to readjust my saddle 2,946,392 times since that hump was lopsided. Also very fat with long toes. Must have eaten its Wheaties, though. Who knew a fat, structurally incorrect, lop- sided hunchback could move so fast? Truly a battle to be seen between horse and bovine. Unfortunately, adventures with the Creature from the Black Lagoon will not continue tomorrow as there are 400 head to process, 200 of which have to be preg. checked. Lesson of the day: Writing stuff down is more effi- cient than using computer system intended to “streamline recordkeeping.” Day 4 Tagged the heck out of 400 head while processing. Got pizza for lunch (thanks to Any Yard, USA). Back to the Crea- Snapchats from a Feedyard Newbie ture from the Black Lagoon for pen riding tomorrow. Fortu- nately, Hunchy got its feet trimmed yesterday so it’s slightly less scary looking. Day 5 Survived Week 1. Met more of the cowboy crew today. Probably new drinking buddies. Hunchback from the Black Lagoon was slightly lame. Saddle only almost slipped off like 48 times. Still chased moo creatures like a champ. May or may not have spent 40 minutes emptying a pen. Cattle get very attached to their pen. Somewhat sketchy when a market-ready steer runs straight at you. Definitely lost that game of chicken. One pen was like chasing ADHD cats.  JOHNSON CONCRETE LIVESTOCK WATERERS THE BEST NAME IN CATTLE WATERERS www.JohnsonConcreteProducts.com Trusted by Livestock Owners Everywhere!
