Kelsey Pope is a fourth-generation Colorado cattle rancher from Limon. Kelsey attended Kansas State University where she got her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in ag economics. Growing up with a passion for her family’s ranch, showing cattle in 4-H and telling their story as producers led her to start a blog while attending college to tell the world about agriculture and cattle producers. Kelsey met her husband, Ronny, while at Kansas State and, after college, the pair moved to Nebraska. In Nebraska, Kelsey worked for the Nebraska Corn Board, traveling throughout the state, across the United States and even internationally, helping producers and telling their stories. After five years in Nebraska, they had the opportunity to move back to Kelsey’s family ranch in Limon.
Kelsey and Ronny, along with their two boys, Chisum, 11, and Conagher, 4, operate Solid Rock Red Angus with Kelsey’s family, and have helped Chisum start his own herd of Red Angus and Simmental cattle for showing. Kelsey manages all of the registration and DNA work for the seedstock business. She also continues her passion for writing for many organizations, including CattleFax, Nebraska Cattleman Magazine and Compass Ag Solutions while helping on the ranch and raising her boys, all from the comfort of her home on the ranch.
Her passion to volunteer and continue agvocating has led her to her involvement with her local cattlewomen’s chapter in Lincoln County. She serves on the Colorado CattleWomen’s Executive Board, is Producer Council chair for the Colorado Livestock Association and also sits on the Colorado Agritourism Association Board.
Chisum and Conagher are continuing in their parents’ footsteps with their passion for 4-H, livestock judging, volunteering and helping where they can on the ranch. Both boys are also very active in sports and church activities. They keep their parents moving.
Kelsey takes great pride in raising their boys back on the family ranch where she can also work telling other producers’ stories.
