Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska

By Betty Jo Gigot, Publisher

Through the years, the Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska has become a premier event of the summer in Nebraska. Sponsored by local cattle producers, the ball is held in a different location each year. Since its inaugural event in 1998, More than $16 million has been raised in past years for the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center in Omaha. Ninety percent of the fundraiser’s proceeds go directly to the cancer center with the remaining re- turned to the local community for health and wellness initiatives. This year’s event was held at the Cass County Fairgrounds in Weeping Water. Mark your calendar for next year’s ball, June 2-3 at Pender.

These are just a few of the 30 nurses in training at UNMC College of Nursing. They had a booth at the ball doing some health screening. This group is in the one-year fast-track program!
Mass was held at the Ball, with Fr. Robert Matya celebrating. This was the first Ball he had attended. We were at a table with him as he enjoyed the auction.
