The Animal Agriculture Alliance recently welcomed Grace Platte as coordinator, membership and communications. In this role, Platte will assist in managing the organization’s membership and sponsorship processing, recruitment and engagement.
COLORADO
The Colorado Livestock Association (CLA) awarded Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg (R-Colo.) the CLA Top Choice Award for his significant contributions to the livestock industry in Colorado. Sonnenberg has been a long-time advocate and friend of the industry. As an agriculturist, he has farmed and ranched in northeast Colorado with his family for many years.
KANSAS
The 2022 Kansas Livestock Association Young Stockmen’s Academy gathered for its second installment of the year. Members from across the state spent three days in the Kansas City area touring agribusinesses and beef retailers. The class visited Costco, Hy-Vee and Whole Foods Market, where they learned more about how customers make meat buying decisions. For a look at the various ways beef is marketed in the meat case, the group also toured Bichelmeyer Meats and Golden Belt Beef, both family- owned retail meat shops based in Kansas City.
COMPANY
Cargill announced it has signed a binding agreement to acquire Delacon, a plant-based phytogenic additives company. The acquisition combines Cargill’s global network and expertise in animal nutrition technologies with Delacon’s pioneering knowledge of phytogenic feed additives, a category that uses a broad range of herbs, plants and their extracts, such as essential oils, to improve livestock and aquaculture performance and promote animal health.
RaboResearch Food & Agribusiness has hired Lance Zimmerman as senior beef analyst. Zimmerman joins Rabobank after nearly 12 years at CattleFax, where he began as a market analyst in 2011. He went on to serve as CattleFax’s manager of research, analysis and data from 2016 to 2021, and most recently as the director of research and protein market analysis. Before joining CattleFax, Lance spent over six years at Certified Angus Beef, where he led their marketing and supply development efforts.
